Your oil filter should be changed at the manufacturer’s recommended interval even if your oil is in spec.

The government mandated specifications for CJ-4 and CK-4 diesel oil removed a lot of the additives that made diesel oils so robust. Hot Shot’s Secret Black Diamond Outlaw returns these lost properties and is the most complete diesel oil available. It has the highest Total Base Number (TBN) rating and the highest extreme-pressure additive package, which includes zinc, of all our oils.
We chose our PAO Adrenaline Racing Oil as the starting point for Black Diamond Outlaw and blended in additional CK-4 additive, extreme-pressure additives and TBN Booster. At nearly a 15 TBN rating, Black Diamond Outlaw exceeds the CK-4 specification by 150% with nearly 3 times the amount of zinc mandated by API for the CK-4 specification.
The increased TBN provides you with unmatched protection against the acidic conditions occurring naturally in diesel combustion engines. The harder you run your diesel, the more protection you’re going to need. Black Diamond Outlaw gives you all the benefits of the latest lubrication technologies of a PAO oil, including molecular, oxidative, thermal and additive package stability, but now with extra protection that we haven’t seen in years.
Being 100% PAO synthetic, Hot Shot’s Secret Black Diamond Outlaw provides many more benefits than other synthetic or conventional oils. The high viscosity index of PAO’s requires fewer viscosity improvers to meet the weight specifications. The shearing of viscosity improvers will thin your oil by mechanical means while being pressed through main and rod bearings, camshaft bearings, lifters, and between valve stems and rocker tips. Reducing the amount of viscosity improvers needed in your oil reduces the amount of mechanical shearing that takes place. This keeps your oil from losing viscosity and keeping it in specification and providing you with a more consistent oil and engine performance.
The true synthetic nature of PAO’s keeps oxidation from occurring at high temperatures due to their chemical structure. PAO’s have a fully saturated linear arrangement that have alkyl functional groups attached which gives it unique oxidation resistance and cold flow properties. While not FC-W rated, Black Diamond engine oil can be used in this application. Black Diamond has not yet been certified as environmentally safe for marine applications but would not cause harm to the engine. Hope that helps!
