Fuel treated with EDT is a “PREMIUM” diesel fuel. Every diesel engine would benefit from EDT! The cetane improver in EDT consists of special nitrates which are pro-oxidants and which speed up the oxidative process of fuels during combustion, giving more power and improved mileage. EDT provides significantly increased ignition efficiency with all diesel fuels. In addition, EDT prevents gum and sludge formation. Corrosion is prevented by an inhibitor which produces a protective non-deposit-forming film on metal surfaces in the fuel system and which neutralizes corrosive acids formed during combustion. An important component of EDT is a special demulsifier which disperses condensed moisture. Condensed water in fuels is a major cause of rust, icing in cold weather and the growth of microorganisms in warm weather. Operation of diesel engines is noticeably improved when corrosion and growth of bacteria are prevented. EDT contains an exclusive polar lubricity additive to prevent wear without altering fuel viscosity.
The Science
EDT is extremely effective in middle distillate fuels to improve combustion and ignition efficiency, enhance fuel economy and maintain fuel in a clean, stabilized condition. The sulfur content of this diesel fuel additive does not exceed 15 ppm
The reason for better performance with EDT is that cetane improvement in the fuel gives a smoother, less erratic pressure buildup in the combustion chamber during the ignition delay period which occurs between injection and ignition.
Controlling this pressure buildup with EDT eliminates potential damage to piston rings and rod bearings
Power and fuel economy are increased as fuel burns more evenly and cleanly. Misfiring is controlled. When ignition improves, emissions are reduced and noise levels are lowered. Controlling the pressure build-up allows more complete burning of the refractive molecules in the fuel, which steal power and produce deposits and wear.

I had originally purchased 12 gallons of EDT to treat the fuel used in two of my emergency backup generator tanks, after performing loads of research comparing this to the other products available; in the end, it came down easily from a few dozen products to just two products and I went with EDT because it is from a company that is focused on its role in the marketplace. I noticed several improvements almost immediately with my 7 backup generators, especially noise. I also noticed an improvement with the fuel, which was tested, and confirmed in the reports from polished fuel versus polished fuel with EDT. I’ve got a ‘15 Tdi Touareg that I’m OCD about. It had no issues, but DAMN did the Diesel Extreme wake it up! I joke it’s like being ‘on the juice’. I work for Volkswagen of America and have several family members in Tdi’s- ALL are now using Hot Shots products. Running stiction eliminator now too. Anyhow, there is a NOTICABLE difference using the fuel additives.
I’ve read through all the reviews and have only ONE question for your scientists – is it SAFE to just use Diesel Extreme in every tank? Perhaps a lower dosage..
I’d love some education on the difference between the two – DE & EDT.
For all out there, I’ve used Stanadyne Performance and Diesel Kleen before- NOTHING Like the hot shots products, use it every tank. Fastest start-ups (ONE crank in a split second then turns over immediately, never had it like that before) Throttle response, turbo spool times, fuel economy, best way I can describe accurately is the suv feels as though it FLOATS on it! We have done considerable no-harm testing with Diesel Extreme. It is safe to use in every tank, but it is just not needed. You can use a smaller amount of Diesel Extreme for an “Everyday Diesel Treatment”. 2 oz per 25 gallons (the same as the Performance Dosage for EDT) will be a good treat rate.
“Is LX4 IN Diesel Extreme?”
No. We haven’t done enough testing with LX4 in Diesel Extreme to see if it has any effects on the cleaning properties of Diesel Extreme. (There is quite a bit of lubricity in Diesel Extreme already.)
“Is it beneficial to add LX4 to tanks WITH Diesel Extreme and/or EDT?”
EDT now contains enough LX4 to meet the Engine Manufacturers recommendation for a 460 micron in the ASTM-D6709 test for diesel fuel lubricity.
IF you are only using Diesel Extreme for cleanup at the recommended treat rate, we do not recommend using LX4 on top of Diesel Extreme. However, IF you are using it for an Everyday Diesel Treatment as mentioned above, then I would add about 1/2 ounce to 10 gallons of LX4 on top of the Diesel Extreme.
Diesel Extreme has a much higher level of cetane than EDT. It is not uncommon for customers to experience higher mpg gains from using Diesel Extreme over EDT. Also, the Diesel Extreme helps burn a lot of the piston and combustion chamber deposits, which have a higher BTU rating than regular diesel fuel, so you will get a more noticeable performance increase from that.
